Susan is a self-taught Utah artist, starting her art career upon retirement in 2016 after moving to beautiful southern Utah from her beloved state of Michigan.
Susan has spent a lifetime appreciating art and self-expression through interests in interior design, arts, architecture and travel. Always searching for artful and interesting photographs, her life journey now provides her with the ultimate opportunity to photograph and paint from nature, featuring the stunning local Utah landscapes.
Susan has always found art to be a fulfilling pastime, creating unique custom pieces for her homes. Then on a trip to northern Michigan around 2014, she discovered a local plein air event that forever changed her life. She observed and studied artists in action, intensely studying those she discovered nationally. She was gifted a pouchade box and began taking plein air and painting classes from both Michigan and Utah artists, figuring it would be a great way to spend some of her retirement time.
In Utah, she joined the Southern Utah Art Guild, gaining exposure to many talented artists. She also quickly discovered that painting in a larger format was the best thing to do in such a grand area! Experimenting with acrylics, she ultimately discovered nothing compared to her love of oils and the textures and color blends she could create.
In 2018, Susan started exploring non-traditional palette knife techniques and never looked back. The process came very naturally, very much like spreading butter or frosting cake. Buyers were ready for something fresh, unique, big, bold and colorful. She is extremely fortunate to see the world through the eyes of an artist and to share her creativity. Her art is in collections across the country.
