Margaret Abramshe, Textile Artist

Margaret Abramshe has been working in the arts for 40 years. A career artist and educator, she earned a degree in Art Education from Florida International University and a Master’s in Visual Art from the University of Northern Colorado.

Margaret accepts commissions to create original art from clients' photographs. Everything from vintage family portraits, printed photographs to cell phone images. Digital design fee of $100 provides customers an image of the final project for approval. Projects can be printed up to 50”. Pricing is approximately $1 a square inch. Process time 4- 8 weeks excluding fabric printing process.

Margaret's Process

Process: Beginning with a small original composition created from physical and digital layers, the work is printed commercially in larger format on linen cotton canvas. When the printed canvas arrives in the studio, the surface is painted in layers of glazed water soluble mediums. The process allows for the printed image to be altered to improve the overall composition. The surface is further embellished with hand carved stamps, collage, and drawing on its surface.

In the final stage, the painted canvas is layered like a quilt with non-woven batting, and densely woven backing fabric. Using a sewing machine, stitching creates a contour drawing and surface patterns with colored thread ..All the raw edges are finished by hand. The soft canvas floats on a support slat from the wall or can be stretched over a frame. 

Custom Work

Margaret can make a custom piece of commissioned art for you using your own photograph. There is a $100 design fee which includes three different design options. She will incorporate the colors of your choice into the designs. The final price of the design depends on the size of your art which is your decision. It's $1.00 per square inch which can be calculated by the desired height X width= ___ X $1.00=Price of your art plus the $100 design fee.
